Chemical free degassing for industrial plant operators

An evolving technology

A lot has changed since Mobile Water Solutions were first introduced into the market. Originally, they were simply ion exchange resins mounted inside trailers, which could be transported to a site to provide a temporary supply of high purity water. However, needs have diversified, generating demand for a broader range of available physical and chemical technologies, degasification, pretreatment by clarification and filtration to reverse osmosis, absorption, ultrafiltration and ancillary equipment.

The modular design allows a variety of process configurations to be combined, making it possible to treat a towns’ mains, borehole, river and reservoir water, and even wastewater resources.

Chemical Free Degassing
A key technology is our REMOX assets. These are membrane degassers which can achieve reductions from oxygen saturation levels in feed water without the use of chemicals. A membrane system that is housed in a container and can be used to remove the oxygen and carbon dioxide content from process water in a flexible, fast and efficient way, without the use of chemicals. Such treatment is necessary to avoid corrosion in the pipes. This technology brings both an environmental and sustainable solution to the treated water requirements.

Chemical free water degasification for District Heating Network, The Netherlands
The operating site needed to carry out long term maintenance on their water treatment plant and went to Mobile Water Solutions to provide the temporary water treatment service required.

Mobile Water Solutions provided their REMOX technology for this project. REMOX are membrane degassing units (MDU). They provide a compact, efficient and maintenance free technology to remove oxygen and carbon dioxide (oxygen <10 ppb carbon dioxide <1 ppm) from water in a flexible, fast and efficient way, without the use of chemicals.

The REMOX 50C is used to fill the heat buffers. The system treats 50 m³ of water per hour. There are also versions with a double capacity available, which are especially applicable for filling ‘heat buffers’ and pipe systems for district heating. With such projects, it can be a challenge to ensure that extra oxygen does not get into the water again after the treatment. That is why special pumps are used and fixed piping instead of hoses.

Mobile Water Solutions used for the expansion of a utility provider in Germany
With coal fired power stations closing the focus is on future proofing and expanding gas and steam turbine power plants. At one site, a new heating storage reservoir was being built. Mobile Water Solutions worked to support the EPC responsible for this project. The engineering company was building the new circa 40,000m3 heat buffer tank, which is operated with >100°C water and needed to be filled with deoxygenated water.

This reservoir allows a more flexible and economical use of the power plant. At certain times the power plant can run at lower capacity or even be turned off while the heat storage is able to maintain the district heating supply for the city for up to 70 hours.

For this construction project Mobile Water Solutions provided a reverse osmosis MORO 4 x 25T running in double pass configuration feeding a REMOX 100C to produce 45m3/h, 24/7 deoxygenated demin water. The conductivity required was <40 µS/cm and O2 <50 ppb. Additional supply of a feed water buffer and two MOPS-170i pump skids, assured a constant filling of the heat buffer. An important benefit here was the deoxygenated water was achieved without the use of chemicals

Reliability and security in supply of treated water are key.
Water treatment asset rental offers an attractive solution to support and complement existing assets ensuring the provision of treated water at all times including emergency events and planned interruption for maintenance or refurbishment. This service provides a unique contingency plan so that you can have ‘Peace of Mind’ in the event of an unforeseen or planned requirement and rely on being fully operational with the desired level of security and protection at all times.
